Tomorrow is an exciting day for YMCA Storer Camps.  The first EcoCorps weekend of 2013 is scheduled for this weekend, and we’ve got over 20 volunteers registered!  We’ll be working in the prairie fen on the south side of camp.  We’ll continue our work to push back a thick infestation of glossy buckthorn.  The weather report says mid-50’s and partly sunny, so we should have a great day to work outside!

Meanwhile, along the banks of Iron Creek, ICP landowners continue working to improve the natural lands and waters in the upper River Raisin watershed.  The Crew and landowner Woody Kellum continue to remove autumn olive from the KellGoode Oak Savanna Demonstration Unit.  Native grasses, such as big bluestem (see above picture) and Indian grass, have been planted throughout the unit.

The Stewardship Network’s annual conference, The Science, Practice & Art of Restoring Native Ecosystems 2013, is coming up next weekend!  The conference will be held at the Kellogg Center in East Lansing on January 18 and 19.  The Raisin Cluster’s own Sybil Kolon and Bob Kellum have been selected as joint presenters at this year’s conference!  There is still time for you to register to attend all or part of the conference.  For more information: www.stewardshipnetworkconference.org

Make sure you “Follow the Blog Via Email” so you don’t miss any posts.  The Raisin Cluster looks forward to posting updates from The Dahlem Conservancy.  Mickey Kress, a Dahlem volunteer, writes updates for Dahlem and has agreed to have them published here too.  Prepare yourself for some stunning bird photos and great updates on what is going on at The Dahlem Conservancy.
